My router loses connection after an indiscriminate time while another PC is connected to the network.

The internet works fine when:

- It is only my pc that is connected.
- Only my pc is sending/receiving data.

But when the other pc is connected and also sending/receiving data, it works for a couple of minutes.
Then it cuts in and out and sometimes remains disconnected.

I have tried:

- Using static IP's on both pc's
- Using dynamic IP's on both pc's
- DHCP Disabled on the router
- Using different cables

At the time of the disconnect I ran a tracert to google. The resulting pings show that I can ping the router but nothing after that. So I am still connected to the router, but the router is not connecting to the internet.
I have also ran tracers on the other pc and 3rd pc connected to the network all showing the same results.

I checked the logs from the router, and in all the instances of the disconnects this seems to be the common occurrence:
"
-home info crond crond: USER root pid 15962 cmd /etc/bewan/init.d/ntp init
-home debug ntp /etc/bewan/init.d/ntp init
-home debug sntp ntp engine ready
-home debug sntp ntp engine exiting
-home debug sntp Terminating
"

The time stamps on these logs all happen at the same time. It then shows no entries for 30 seconds and then continues to log again after that.

Please help, I'm at a complete loss.

I've had the same problem. Could connect as many Windows PC's and android devices with no problem, but as soon as a Mac connected to the network, everything dropped.
After trying everything, I gave up, bought a new router, and problem solved.

OP, is your router new or old? I have similar intermittent issues with my 7 year old Billion 7300G adsl router, but with mine the disconnect from ISP or hanging of the router can be caused any my laptop or PC or even possibly one of my mobile devices. I've not managed to isolate the cause and and am not much of a techie when it comes to fiddling with routers etc... I may resort to getting a new router as I suspect the router to be the problem. Don't think it is Afrihosts fault, though I am only 90% certain of that :p
