Hi all,

The guy from Telkom is finally coming to install my ONT this week! :D

Now I just need a router. What specs do I need to look for when shopping for a fibre router? I know that it must have a WAN port. Is there anything else I should know?

I'm looking at the TP-Link TL-MR3420 which I can get for R600:

Would that work?

It should work, what are you using it for in terms of usage/space to cover?

It's for a small flat. Web browsing, streaming and some gaming.

Must just have a Wan port - that tp link should work . I have it on Telkom fibre. Had to reset every now and again but suppose that goes for all routers

Anybody know which is the cheapest router with Gigabit WAN and ethernet ports?

All the ones I've come across are upwards of R1000. TP-Link is usually the cheapest.

I've just bought the TP-Link W8970 for R1200. It has 4 gigabit LAN ports (one is interchangeable with WAN) and a lot of other features. Only thing it lacks is AC Wi-Fi, but it's not an issue for me.

Great value for money, I would recommend it!

I put most of my TP-Link routers on a plugged-in timer switch to reset every morning (i.e. turn it off for 15 mins between 5:45 and 6:00 or whatever).
