Different Router Speeds on Rain

I searched the internet but couldn't find any info regarding the maximum speed forecasted for the various modems approved for Rain, except the two Huawei's.

I tested Rain yesterday with a Huawei B315. I got full signal strength and experienced 10-30Mb/s speed for the two hour test between 18h00-20h00. A Mybroadband speed test actually gave me 41Mb/s


How do the routers compare in terms of maximum speed on the Rain network? Will I even see the benefit of a B618, B2338 or other router getting the magical 50Mb/s?

Just an Update for those who still have similar questions:

I bought the Hauwei B618, and boy can that router go! MyBB test of downloads of 28ms, 46.5/12.9 Mb/s and my Steam updates at more than 50Mb/s!





Only problem is that I used allmost 100GB in under 4 hours. However, it is nice to know you can have Steam updating at more than 50Mb/s, reducing the wait substantially.

So, to answer my own question: Yes. The router make a massive difference in the download speed if it's not suffering from congestion on the Rain network (which luckily my area is not...yet). If you can, get the B618

I've had the 25Gb package for a week now.

Can't fault their ordering and delivery process.Gotmine in less than a week from order. Setup was a breeze. half decent support via email or online chat.

R299 seemed competitive enough for 25Gb/pm B315s Huawei package 24 mnth contract (actually more like 15-20gb because uploads are included..sneaky! )

I think Mweb where doing a 25x2Gb special but my experience and that of a family relative recently with them over the phone was less than desirable so decided to give Afrihost a go and plased I did in hindsight.

Ive tested the signal in quite a few areas around Southern Subs in CT and have never achieved more than 8-10Mbps dl speeds, day or night.
But i'm not a 22 yr old gamer or 24x7 movie / serial series dl'er or watcher so adequate for my fairly moderate internet needs.

That said , would be nice to get full coverage 5 bars rather than 2-3 bars on the router, just to see what max supported speed of 50mbps is like but overall in all i'm a happy customer which is welcome in this day and age of rampant promises that never materialise and non existent customer service.

quite right...mine too , I meant 3 bars consistently and downloads above 10mbps ( which is ADSL type speed anyway )

It's spec'd at 150/50 mbps but not sure anyone in SA could attain those speeds consistently...

ok i know its Sat night, long weekend all the kids and students throttling the life out of the net BUT...
honestly with max dl speed of 10mbps i've achieved at 3am in morning and average between 2-5mbps this does make me gatvol. Wouldn't it you? I can barely use my measely 25Gb even if I tried at these speeds.

Yes I know its Africa, blah blah...but I live in area of CT with enough towers close by and 2 bars consistently on my B315s router as well as using Network Cell mobile app to check for best signal reception spot in my house...
I'm not in the bundus - is this the best Afrihost can do??!!!

Couldn't even watch a BBC news clip earlier...
