Hi there

I'm getting fiber soon. Want to prepare equipment I would like to get.

My aim to get 100/100 fiber connection.
Want to get my own router, leaning towards this, ASUS RT-AC1200G+ AC1200 Dual-Band Gigabit Wi-Fi Fibre-Ready Router.
This router has 2*2 Mimo for both freq. bands. Any suggestion in same price range or other make and model. (Price R1500)
I want the item to be better if possible.

I want to use Wifi on one of the freq. bands for smart Samsung TV. Streaming Netflix.
Other band for I-Pad and phones.

I'm a noob if it comes to equipment selection.
Want o use my own router when getting fiber. Want to enjoy my fiber experience.

Any suggestion would be highly appreciated.

I recommend using the ISP provided router so they can assist you with the setup and problems .

Personally I don't like all in one routers. I prefer a dedicated router and a dedicated wifi. My personal recomendation wouldn't be for a beginner but a miktorik 951U-2hd - the gigabit one if u ever want to go fastet than 100mbs and either a mikrotik cap ac lite if u like playing with mikrotiks or a unifi ac lite if u need more than one AP (big house etc). Run a cable to the center of the house ceiling mount the ap and leave the fiber and router in the study or room at the edge of the house.

Any decent ISP should be able to assist you irrespective of the router. I don't use the router supplied by my ISP and they have logged into the router several times to update setting when the VoIP phone goes insane or to diagnose other issues.

A decent router makes a massive difference to the experience. I use a AC54000, was expensive but worth every cent. I needed a gigabit router that supported link aggregation for my NAS plus wanted better gaming experience without the need to be wired. I no longer notice a difference when gaming between wifi and wired.

My advice, get the best you can afford.
