Hi Guys

After 4 weeks of waiting my ADSL is connected working perfect.

Now I have the ADSL connected to a router, the router has 4 ethernet outs and a usb also wi-fi.
the problem is my pc is in the next room(about 20 meters away) and the ethernet cable reaches there but now in the same room i have my ps3 so i was thinking instead of running a second cable to the ps3 is there any way that I could use a router to act as a hub/ethernetswitch I have a spare telkom mega 105wr router that i could use .

Is this possible if so how do I go about doing it.

Thanks

Yea, don't see any problem with that.

If I understand correctly:

You have a gateway ADSL router with 4 ports.

You want to connect this to another router and you want to connect your PC and PS/3 to this other router, call it the media gateway.

You need to run a cable between the Gateway router and the Media router: depending on them you can either just use a normal flylead, i.e. straight connection or you will need to use a cross link. Both easy to make.

Then depending on the routers, you might want to disable some stuff in the media gateway, i.e. any dhcp or adsl or anything similar.

But basically you just daisy chain the routers to each other, plug and pray.

cross over or straight cable will work , login to one of the routers before hand and make sure the ip set on the router (default gateway) are not the same , and switch off dhcp on one of the routers if you use that.

Thanks Guys

I have used the straight cablr method

It goes like this in

First Room ADSL Modem (Internet Access Also-4 port ethernet router with wi-fi,usb).
One ethernet cables goes to my lounge about 20 metres away from the router the second cable a pc in the same room with media on it movies, music etc.

In the lounge I have a HTPC And a ps3. what I had in mind was setting up a spare router to act as a hub or ethernet switch as I have inly one cable coming to the lounge and two devices that need ethernet my idea was that I could then watch movies from the computer in the room on the ps3 or computer in the lounge also update the ps3/computer from the internet.

The problem if I connect the cable from the main router (ADSL) to the second router (pretend ethernet switch) the ps3 can access the internet perfectly and same for the other pc in the room
BUT the minute I plug the HTPC in the lounge into the router (pretend ethernet switch) all devices/pcs loose connection to the internet bear in mind my ADSL router still shows a dsl light on and interent light on

I also noticed that if i do a speed test on the HTPC the ping is above 1000 but on all the other devices it is aroung 53-60 ping speedtest.net

Thanks
