Our router (billion 7300) was hard reset at work.
I'm trying to help them get back up and so far we have internet but no incoming mail.
The soonest our ISP can get a techie here is tomorrow.

What on the router settings needs to be setup to allow for incoming mail.

Help would be appreciated as the boss lady is in a bit of a panic.

Tx gents

Is there a firewall option in the router/modem, it may be blocking POP and SMTP ports by default.

Afaik, POP uses port 110 , but SSL/TLS encrypted POP uses port 995. SMTP uses port 25 , but SSL/TLS encrypted SMTP uses port 465.

You should not have to setup anything for incoming mail. Do you have your own mail server onsite by any chance?

Portforward port 25 to your email server.

the rules will look something like :

Incoming - all
Source IP - all
Destination IP - <mailserver IP>
Source port - 25
Destination port - 25

There is a Firewall / Packet filter option on the router.
In the drop down box i can see:
SMTP Client (Port25)
SMTP Server (Port25)
POP Client (port110)
POP Server(port110).

Would this be what i need to setup??

One more question.
Do I need to setup the virtual server on the router??

How do you get the public incoming traffic to your router?
Does your ISP assign a public? How many?

You might need to setup a l2tp tunnel to get the public.

Do I need to make any changes to Virtual service.
I can feel my hair turning grey.

As stated before internet works fine and there was outgoing mail.
Now only internet.

I think the OP need to wait for the techie to come out - as the router probably was configured with L2TP for a static IP (and thus, email).

As we don't have that information, it'll be useless to proceed.

@OP - ask the techie for a detailed documentation on the router setup, and it must be done when he is finished. Not just an "I'll email it later" thing... it must be done onsite and be finished before the techie leaves.

or just make a backup of the config

Indeed. The boss lady must just chill the **** out since she doesn't have a permanent techie on site. Can't make that OP's fault now all of a sudden.

And i'm back.

They sent a techie who spend the whole time on his cell with his office and about an hour later problem solved.
Comes Friday afternoon boss lady informs me that her VPN connection on her laptop is not working anymore.
I could only start looking at it this today.

Anybody out there that can maybe run me through the router settings for allowing a VPN connection??

VPN from inside to out, or VPN from home to the office?
