Hello all

So i got fibre last week and i have a zyxel n3300 router

yesterday i noticed my wifi on my PC and my wifes PC would drop and it wont connect. It would show under the wifi connections but not connect

i had to restart my router

why does the router do that and how can i fix this ?

if its happening to all devices connected to the wifi and a router restart fixes it for a short while every time, i would say the wifi router is faulty.

maybe try a factory reset and flash the firmware of the router

Thanks bud, how do I flash it. So I have downloaded new firmware but when loaded and I go back to the admin it still shows the old firmware

Is there another way

This sounds like when I tried to just extend my WiFi network by plugging a second router directly into the first. They ended up with this weird sporadic conflict, so it'd work and then the connection would disappear and return in a bit. I gave up on that eventually.

It sounds silly, but is your fibre cable plugged into your router's WAN port, and did you set it up with the connection details your ISP sent you?

this is what happens when you don't listen to me :)

just to be clear only the pc's give an issue not phones?
Had a similar issue but onone PC the AP was set as public so once i changed it to private it was ok.
if not that then, Have you tried changing the wifi channel or even the SSID name?

so i got this router from my buddy who actually tried doing that before where he tried setting this one up as a 2nd rouer (wifi extender) . I took it and reset all factory settings though and yes its plugged into the wan and there is internet

its just that it will drop completely yet the router is still on and then when i try connect via wifi its say connecting the whole time

hahaha i got this router for free lol ....money saved

it happens to both PCs and Phones and no didnt change the ssid name

on the router config page there isnt a list of connected devices as well that i can find and how do you change the channel ?

CAT 6 Ethernet Cable (50 ft) LAN, UTP (15 Meters) CAT6 ...

On a more serious note, in my experience, reception can be an issue. If you are too far from your router, or if there's a wall or something in the way, then devices can have an issue maintaining a stable connection.

Try sitting right next to the router with one computer / phone and see if the issue persists.

Otherwise, it may be as @access suggests, some kind of issue with the router. A firmware update may fix, or you might actually have to shell out money and buy one.

I recommend the Asus range, I've found them to be very good.

Are you using this as your main router or as an AP.
is DHCP switched on or off on this router?

If it's a DHCP issue, you should see the same problem if you plug in via an ethernet cable.

A potential workaround would be to set static IPs for the clients.

But I doubt it's that.

try with a different browser.

it should just be a case of downloading the file, maybe extracting it, then navigating to the firmware update section and selecting the file to update with.

i assumed you have this same connection problem when your right next to the thing... and not walking to it with your phone, restarting it giving you a good connection, then walk away again to some distant place that gives you a poor connection, making you walk back and restarting it again, and so forth.. :p

Wifi adaptor properties, go to configure and check your Wireless Mode, I had the same issue with an old laptop (Win 10) and fixed it in there.
