Looking to buy new router as I have just got a 4mb line. Mainly want to get a router that is stable and u get good latency. It will mainly be used for gaming so Im not really sure which product to get....

any ideas of good routers out there that are not too expensive around 600 to 900 bucs...

Looked at the dlink 2750U but having heard any good reviews about it and it seems to only be available in india aswell... also seen Trendnet but never really heard of them but had some good reviews.... any ideas

i am going to sell my netgear dg834DG v5 to my buddy. i'm looking also at a good router. Pada is the TP-Link W8960N the best for buck router and whats good about its features

Stevie G:
The TP-Link W8960N is an ADSL2+ modem with 802.11n (300Mbps WiFi - 2x detachable antennas) and 4x 100Mbps LAN ports.
With its web interface you can change pretty much anything you want: port forwarding, ADSL modulation (ADSL2+/G.Dmt), bridge/half-bridge mode, etc.

The D-Link DSL-2750U is pretty much the same, except that it includes an USB 2.0 port that can be used for 3G/Printer/NAS.

If you're looking for Gigabit LAN + 802.11n, then you're going to look at units costing R1200+, and even more if you want it to include simultaneous dual band 802.11n (2.4GHz + 5GHz). TO be honest, I haven't seen the latter that includes an ADSL modem.

The simple 1 ethernet port DLink-2500U for R199 will give you a solid stable adsl connection. More stable than most higher priced fancy routers.

Then add what ever else you like;

Gigabit switch + wireless AP
or
fancy broadband wireless router.

I like to have it all separate as an all-in-one adsl router only has 4ports, that's not enough. Then the telephone line is always near the side of the house while the wireless AP must be in the center of the house.

my first router was the d-link 2500U, but i fried it somehow. i don't want 2 device laying all over the place. don't need the usb port. i connect wirelessly to my lappie and stream my content in 720p and 1080p without any problems.

cool thanks guys...was the dlink 2750U easy to setup? heard about some problems... and Dan H do u know where its still possible to get a dlink 2500 from?

Anyway again I appreciate the advice...
Any more ideas would be greatful...
Any good shops that have good deals in CT?

You can get the D-Link DSL-2500U from Takealot.com for ~R200 incl shipping & VAT.

The D-Link modems are easy to setup. There are a few things to note about the D-Link ADSL modems:
1) The half-bridge setting is disguised under another name
2) You can accidentally flash it with the incorrect firmware, so caution should be taken when selecting/downloading the firmware
3) The local D-Link's contact page is down ... for the past few months already

That router might have dual band (2.4GHz + 5GHz) support, but it can't handle both simultaneously. For that reason I said you can get Gigabit LAN + 802.11n units for R1200, but the simultaneous dual band ones would cost you considerably more.

I was actually refering to Gigabit LAN Switch + ADSL. I see now you were refering to Gigabit + Simultaneous Dualband + ADSL.

Just to hijack the thread for a moment. Which router offers the fastest wireless performance? I read about a wireless router the other day which claims to do 800mb/s but of course it can't, but what it does give is extremely fast performance of around 150mb's. I for the life of me can't find the article but the question still remains, which router offers the highest real world wireless performance?

I'm sick of waiting to transfer movie across the network, and wires are not an option for my laptop.

I got a dlink2500 about 2months back from takealot for R199 iirc as the free telkom one was giving trouble. No-name-brand 8port gigabit switch from cafe java for R199 and a 2x9dBi antenna 300mbit/s wifi router for R230ex from scoop.
