Hi Guys

I've been playing with the idea of routing my plex server (based in SA) though a CDN as I spend a lot of time traveling and obviously with my server being on a home fibre connection, I'm not getting more than 5-6mbps between my current location and the server which means buffering, buffering and more buffering

Reddit seems to be split on the idea, some say it won't make a difference, others do.

Has anyone here tried it? Especially since the crackdown on hosting servers in DC's?

I think the problem is that the CDN needs to first cache the request. If it's infrequent data that's accessed like media, it's unlikely to be cached and so won't really help - in fact, it could be slower due to the additional middle man. It's also more complicated when it comes to streaming and whether the CDN will cache it at all. I think the only time it will be useful is if it's specifically setup for caching streams and there's multiple people accessing the same media. Otherwise I don't see any real benefit.

Are you using the Plex Proxy?
My server is based in SA, I am based in the UK. It sits on an Afrihost home connection (350/150) and I am able to watch all my 1080P content. In fact at any one point I have at least 5 active streams running on my server.
Sadly I can't stream 4K because Virgin Media is ****!

I hate being the guy that says you are onto the wrong solution because you've clearly researched this, but just a couple of thoughts.
Is your plex server being directly accessed? And is it streaming directly to you or VIA the whole Plex model where they proxy your data?

What kind of fiber speed do you have?

Hi Everyone

Thanks for the feedback

I'm on a Vox 100/100 package on Vuma trenched, relay disabled under network settings on plex

Some speed tests from my location to the Vox servers in JHB
