Can anyone give me a review of Roxio's Popcorn 2. It has great features but I would like to know how fast does it take to encode a standard 90 min movie to Mpeg4 and 3gp. Unfortunately they do not give a trial version to test. I want to use it to encode movies for use on a portable multimedia player. Is it worth the cash or should I stay with the freeware apps out there (d-vision etc)

How does it compare to Quicktime Pro (speedwise)

The only thing I've used popcorn for is shrinking d/l dvd's so they fit on a s/l dvd so I cant comment on what you're aiming to do. Mine's only version 1 but thanks to handbrake I've found no reason to upgrade.

Roxio have a new(ish) product called crunch - http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/crunch/mac/overview.html - I dont think it is worth $50 personally but you might. :)

Had a look at crunch (that's where I followed up to Popcorn) - priced at $39 whereas Popcorn is $49 with a $5 discount. More features in Popcorn for $5 more.

for converting to another format like xvid or h264 there are just too many free apps available for me to justify the money - for copying dvd's and compressing it like you would use DVD Shrink for on a pc popcorn is a great buy.
