Royal Prank Call Nurse "Commits Suicide"

Agreed - unless it is a rebound trick of some sort.

So you work in a prestigious hospital where the privacy of your patients is of the outmost priority and you make the mistake of disclosing sensitive information to a team of pranksters. I would think this would have resulted in a world of pain for the staff involved - especially considering that half the planet made fun of you and resulted in embarrassment for the hospital and probably lots of questions from shareholders, news teams and god-knows-who. I think the aftermath of such an incident would break many people on this forum.

My guess is either the hospital or the royal family came down heavily on the nurse and she reacted like this.

Exactly.

Or in the very least they did not call her to reassure her that no-one was having any grudges against her.

Woman just got caught up in the mess that is the whole British/world infatuation with the royal family and their scandals. Now some stiff upper lipped "expert" on royalty on BBC is reassuring the sheep that the royal family did not come down on her, nor did the management of the hospital. Then why did she do it? Was she really mentally ill?

Why would a woman leave a husband and two kids to commit suicide?
There is something they are not telling us.

UK is part of the European Union, United Nations, etc. UK signed the Declaration of Human Rights. Patients of prestigious hospitals where royalty attend have no greater right to privacy than anyone else. In principle there is equality in the country.

That's just it. She should not have felt it was any worse than being pranked when working in any community hospital.

BTW not sure what sensitive information she disclosed, she put the call through to another sister who was monitoring the duchess. It is not as though she gave her entire medical history out. She's trained as a nurse, and was not wanting in her job as one, but slipped up when someone pulled some social engineering. Maybe if the hospital patients were so important, a member of MI6 or MI5 should have screened all calls beforehand. Obviously they were not.

The sooner the British and the rest of the world stop hyping up the royal family, the better. This death would not have occurred if the royals were treated the same and behaved the same as everyone else.

I'm not sure what's so embarrassing about this call anyway. It's not like they said "Kate just shat herself all over the bed" or something.

And even if she had, so what....?

It's not embarrassing. What's embarrassing is the hype this is causing and the hype around the Windsors.

Well it happens. Mentally unstable people can leave family behind. Depression is a common illness. Maybe she was having psychosis too, as that can lead to suicide as well. But as you said, I'm sure the "pressure" got to her and pusher her over. Even in depressed people, there has to be a trigger to push them over the edge. But had the thing not been so hyped up, and had the lords and duchesses not been seen as better-humans which is still a view common in the UK among the upper classes, this would not have happened. It would not have been such a big deal.

You'd think the media would have leant their lesson from hounding Di.

Paparazzi and ****ers like this need to be culled. They are little more than parasites making money at someone else's expense.

Should have been a pretty harmless prank to get info on the dutchess, nobody could ever have imagined that the person who took the call would kill herself, possibly had serious issues already and this tipped her over the edge.

I think the call for these DJ's heads is purely sensationalist reactions. Phone pranks have been going on for years and years and years and everyone listenes to Wackhead and probably bought or downloaded his CD. I for one love them, find them hilarious, unfortunately accidents happen sometimes, doesnt mean you should hate the people who pulled the prank.

Everyone's culpable.

1. Paparazo must produce material for hungry plebs.
2. Celebs create controversy or act unconventionally to hype their status up for profit.
3. Celebs make money off being famous.

Remember the conspiracy theories after Diana died in the car accident?
People said that the royal family had her killed cause she was embarrassing them.
Well now here you are going to have the same thing.
Nurse causes embarrassment to the royal family.
They send in an agent and have her killed and make it look like a suicide.
And double bonus, the blame gets thrown back onto the DJ's!

Nah..... how could this nurse embarrass them? If anything the hospital and MI5 should be embarrassed. You think if one of the ex US presidents is in hospital they let anyone through? You think a sister is responsible for deciding who gets through where? No. Their security screwed up. That's it. Or the hospital management. But a sister, is no counter intelligence agent. Sisters are not trained in that. They're trained in recording observations, giving injections, putting up IV lines, inserting catheters, etc.

The madding crowd, one minute it licks your hand, the next it rips it off at the wrist.

So, the other nurse is alive and well, good to know the Aussie deadpan is not infectious.

I guess what some have said is indeed true. No one could have foreseen this tragic outcome. What I myself do think though is that we as civilised human beings with some kind of in built respect for each other should have maybe taken pause and thought...here is a nurse that have taken a profession to take care of people when at their most vulnerable ....and in this case...a unborn baby. What we might forget though is that the trust that is supposed to be between a doctor and his patients..or a nurse and patient...is of great importance....to such a great extent that a doctor swears a oath to this. Most doctors and nurses do take this trust between patient and care giver very seriously....and so they should. We as everyday patients take it for granted...but it is such a big trust that we do not even think twice about.

I think that maybe these two DJ's took advantage of a relationship that really should have been left untouched by such silliness.

Ag I dont know.....maybe I am getting too old for this kind of thing....but as we say in Afrikaans. 'n Grap is 'n grap....maar jy maak nie 'n sambrieel in iemand se gat oop nie.

Maybe we as a people would do well to sometimes just take pause and think for a moment before saying something...or playing a joke....and I myself also could benefit from this. I admit it.

With the Leveson Inquiry already going after the media this is not going to end well.

Ff sake, it's a young girl who happens to have marries into royalty, very much like Di. The Brits are going to eat the ozzies alive over this.

So then de-escalate the status of the royals. Frankly no-one should care about them. Yet people do, why? Well it adds to their relevance. Why are paparazos not hounding the Swedish royals or the Dutch?

The media = extension of the public and frankly the royals also sometimes say the darnest things.
