Hi Guys n Girls.

I need a little advice / direction on setting this up.

Here is my setup. I'm running exchange on SBS2003 behind a cisco pix firewall and I'm downloading my mail via pop connector from MTN as they do my filtering and virus scanning.

I am moving to a new setup in a couple of weeks (hopefully sooner) that will have my exchange behind a ISA firewall and my mail will be going through content filters with Datapro and an Ironport server, will no longer be popmail though.

So the big question is how do I setup RPC when my MX record does not point directly to my mail server but rather to content filtering server.

I do have a static ip.

Basically I want to be able to sync mail with a couple of smart phones (berry, ifoon and omnia) and also have mobile users have remote access with there laptops both on the lan and when out of office.

I thought of using a hosts entry like: mail.myworkdomain 168.210.2.2 for over come the issue of the mx record not pointing to my server, but then when machines are on the lan it won't work.

Ideas?

you should have an external IP address for the ISA server. Register a DNS name like webmail.mycompany.co.za with that ip. You probably also going to have to buy a certificate to secure the site as it maybe difficult to use a self signed cert with the newer phones. Publish you exchange out to the net for use with OWA and for RPC over HTTP, you can find these steps out on the net and all should work fine.
