RROD...What Now?

OK, I am lazy...very lazy and not in the mood to read through all the latest 100's of pages.

A friends' Xbox RROD last night (he mms me a pic of the Rings of Doom while crying) I know from the vast ammount of knowledge that the guys at MBB has stored in their craniums that I will be able to save him from this deep, deep, deep pit of despair!

So have at it.
What is the latest way of fixing this?
Who does he contact with MI going belly up?

There are alot of game console places. Do they fix the RROD? Has anyone actually gotten a price on what it costs? Not too sure about what their backlog is. I know there is a place in alberton city that fits mod chips and repair consoles but never actually asked about repairing a RROD xbox.

Best thing is to buy another Xbox 360 / PS3 and forget that one.

They often pretend they'll swop out, but it's a ploy

The have said on couple other threads to try fix it cheap and then sell it off and buy a Jasper model instead.

Have it fixed, sell it and put the money towards a Jasper.

Swap outs are a load of crap as they almost guaranteed to break down again (being refurbished units from the Europe channel).

PS3 swap out units also break down, and from the looks of the units I've been getting ... they're previously repaired units so they will likely break again.

Consumers are getting a rough ride ... I can't stress it enough!
