That the one with the RAM heat pads and washers? Doesn't fix all RROD's just the memory related issues.

Give some feedback on how long it works ;)

Yeah, that one. I will give feed back in good time.

I think my problem was releated to over heating once of twice as the xbox was in a dodgy cabinet which got some sun.. I cleaned up the heat sinks and clean the cou and gpu with alcohol.. and reapplied some artic silver..

looking good so far..

E74 is now also covered by the 3-year warranty, but good luck getting it swapped out through PowerCare. Get Maestro_ZA to fix it for you. Seriously.

Thanks mate!

Despite my presence on the forum ... I don't pump my services at every given opportunity.

I welcome people doing DIY ... but if they stuff the console up ... not my worries :p

@ Maestro_ZA

What service do you offer for the xbox 360.. ?
Which of the erros can you fix with regards to rrod ?

Hi

Laser and DVD-ROM replacement
DVD-ROM repair (sticky tray and laser calibration)
RROD (most errors except 0001-0010 -- Short under the GPU/CPU)
4 red lights
E74
No video / no audio
No audio but video present
Motherboard repair (replace blown or missing capacitors/resistors or re-soldering work)
Other bits and bobs

An IR BGA station and re-ball kit is in the pipeline so that I can offer a reballing service for Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles. Just putting the money together for it as it has to be imported.

Also planning to offer a DVD key retrieval service. Just waiting on a local manufacturer to finalise a bread-board for me that needs to be coupled to the Xbox 360 motherboard.

Why you ask?

You also mod consoles, so I wouldn't give you any of my money. I'd rather bin a bricked console than fund piracy. Oh wait LOL, they're "backups".

That is less than 30% of my income any given month.

Of course people use the 'backup' argument but they simply download games and buy from flea-markets and private backup game sellers. Thats there prerogative. Modding is a service, finish and klaar.

I don't sell copies or make copies either!

You're welcome to use anyone you wish, as I don't beg for business. What I can say is that the non-modding or modding repair concerns certainly don't have the equipment I use or the track record!

I from the start did repairs starting with the PS2 back in 2003. The last 2 years I've been doing console servicing it full-time and have seen tremendous growth.

Hence the reason I'm expanding my services in 2010 so as to do even more types of repairs.

Cheers

yeah the rrod ive got at the moment DEFINETELY is caused from overheating.what i did last night was start a game of GTA4 and after 5 mins it would just hang .so i opened the box up (no warranty relax) and placed this heavy fan over it that blows like a mother directly over the box.started her up again and played GTA for 2 hours flawlessly. my other rrod was more complicated but this one is just overheating..... it still baffles me how badly compacted everything is on the xbox.the dvd drive sitting directly over the GPU heatsink...like what the freak.crazy stuff.... :|

That's like a black market arms dealer saying, "Selling guns is just a service". Sure, it is - but it's also facilitating all the shooting that goes on later. By providing a modding service, you're making it possible for people to play pirated software, and that's shameful. It's not like modding consoles has any other use whatsoever - its sole purpose is to enable consoles to use pirated software - and the only people paying you for this service are scum. Businesses providing services for scum are scum businesses.

One of the reasons Microsoft has stalled on the local rollout of an official LIVE service is because we're flagged as a high piracy region - in other words, lots of the consoles sold are being modded, and would be precluded from using the service. You are every bit a part of this problem as the guy who downloads or buys pirated software.

I really wish you'd reconsider your services.

It's an issue cited several times in articles about the lack of LIVE support in SA, a subject I've followed with some interest. I've been trawling Google for a relevant quote, but can't turn anything up now. It might've been attributed to Craig Nicholson at Microsoft SA, but I'm not 100% certain.

As a journalist, I've previously exchanged email on the topic with the head of the LIVE EMEA region, who did not deny this particular suggestion. He didn't confirm it either, to be fair.

Official quotes notwithstanding, it's an entirely legitimate concern. I know quite a few people with modded consoles, and despite Microsoft's efforts, they're still signing into LIVE. Why should Microsoft invest millions of dollars in installing and maintaining an infrastructure only some of its users are actually entitled to use? While there are illegitimate users of LIVE all over the world, I suspect that number is proportionally higher here in SA. After all, we're a country whose console history is made up almost entirely of a modded / knock-off market - the Reggies rip-off, modded PlayStation 1 and 2s, etc. There's a reason China has no official LIVE support either, and something tells me their reputation for piracy is a part of that.
