So I placed an order for some hardware yesterday and was very surprised that their billing system doesn't charge me immediately. Effectively I've handed over my credit card info without a verification through an app and am trusting them not to screw me over. All I have is the invoice confirming my order and banking details.

While I did my research before I handed over my cc info and a lot of people trust them I'm surprised they use this very archaic charging system. They could in theory just abuse my cc at any point in the future.

RS Components has been around longer than your & my age put together, they have a good rep so I doubt they would do anything to screw you over.

If they don't do verification, the risk is theirs, not yours (except the risk of your card being drawn empty by a thief so that you cannot pay for the fuel you've already put in say, which is why it's important to have a backup card).

If something were to happen you are covered.
Covered for what? The bank fee for replacing the card? The downtime without your card? The call from the international hotel to cancel it? The time spent visiting the bank to get your replacement card? The inconvenience of being abroad after discovering a fraud event on your bank card?

Ok simply don't use them then if you have an issue, go buy from someone else. You have choices.

No kidding LMAO
Point being this is an international firm. They have a website from the 00's web 2.0 style and don't have proper card processing services unlike bobs lawnmowers. It's time they invested a little. I remember the days you used to pay for a Maplin catalogue. Kind of feels like that.

RS Components needs an update, period.
They have like 1/3rd, maybe 50%, of the components I need to build an O2 amp.

By the way those issues you raise still occur if you used 2 factor otp authentication, as soon as your card details are out in the wild it's fair game for fraud.

Huh? amazon also only charges when the item is ready to dispatch too. Saves the hassle of refunds etc if there's stock issues or whatever.

I can promise you that not a single person at RS has access to your credit card details, it'll be encrypted by their payment solution.
