Trying to update my Dad's Mac over a RSAweb 50Mbps connection and I get 2-5 days download time. After rebooting, speed tests etc I give up and have use a MTN hotspot for the 8GB download. Is this normal behaviour for RSAweb?

A few months ago had same problem on telkom lte , had to buy a vpn account, worked 100% after this.

Their international download is pathetic, our 50/50 business fibre only gets like 14 download 14 upload to London on single file download - my cool ideas 20/2 home line performs 100 time better than our business fibre

it boggles the mind how they almost completely block the Apple update servers. If I don’t see a response from them I’m going to have to get him to migrate away from them

Our IT is outsourced and i was speaking to the IT guy last week Thursday and every client they have on RSAWEB has the same issue we have

Hi Tim_vb, I would like to get in touch with you regarding the issue you are experiencing. Can you please DM me your contact details so that we can assist further.

Testing Netflix yesterday and its running at 4mbps on a 40mbps line according to Fast
I find fast.com not a great measure of speed but rather a measure of Netflix quality only.
On my 200mbps line I only get 50mbps, but on actual downloads elsewhere and normal speed tests I can max out my line

fast.com should max your line. i've seen 1gig lines max out.

Netflix uses a modified version of Reno so its totally influenced by what else is on the links as it has a priority on fairness.

When I'm getting 3mbps on fast.com and 30 mbps on speedtest.com I'm pretty sure the ISP is at fault. Possibly insufficient peering capacity to the Netflix servers

Are you using your ISP's dns or googles?

Try change it to 169.1.1.1/2

Sounds like some sort of Traffic management tool (rate limiting certain sources and “balancing loads”). Highly unlikely it’s congestion. Either they have a Netflix Cache (which Netflix will manage and increase capacity accordingly according to their site) or they peer with Netflix on NAP and there are no issues there (otherwise everyone would have issues, and especially if speed tests to other networks work) as they all use the same NAP port as far as I know? So something is actively prioritising/deprioritising and then throttling traffic.

packet loss by the sounds of it

u gotta check the destination you're testing to on fast.com, as it might be sending you to a foreign server (i wrote about how that works here: https://mybroadband.co.za/forum/threads/a-dummies-guide-to-why-your-internet-is-slow.1053581/) while speedtest.net defaults to a close server based on IP geolocation

do iperfs, traceroutes and screenshot...

At the end of the day the Netflix video quality is noticeably bad (around 480p or worse) - its up to RSAweb to fix this. My reason for starting this thread is to alert RSAWeb to their poor service and for others to see that are not delivering.

Have the same issue on international traffic logged numerous issues about it.
