The real WTF here is that the RTIA honestly believes fines it sends in the post will actually get to the person they're sent to, whether they're invalid or not.
That's what I wonder. If the fine isn't handed over personally or sent by registered post then according to the RTIA it isn't valid. Sometimes you don't even know you have a fine until you register with some 3rd party website to look them up.
But I'll bet my bottom dollar the moment you drive through a road block, you won't be leaving there until the fine is paid.

The only recourse you have is to go to court, but seriously who will do that? So we end up paying fines that are technically not valid.

Show me the fine and i might pay. Sms messages or emails are invalid.

They need to extend prescription to 15yrs if they use the "post" office

So nope, even at a roadblock, they cannot stop you from leaving if you have unpaid fines, unless a warrant of arrest has been issued on that fine.

Been wondering why fines never arrive and I just never pay.i have a glovebox full of fines. Iv never paid a fine once. Africa's inefficiencies work in my favour's.

The City of Cape Town no longer even bothers to post traffic fines anymore. They just sms you to let you know that you've got a fine. I guess if your cellphone number on your Natis profile is wrong then you'll never even know you've got a fine. But you would never have known anyway if they tried to post it to you.
