RTX 3070 - Causing constant resets

So, I have recently acquired a Palit GeForce RTX 3070 GamingPro OC.

Long story short, it's causing games to reset the machine, suspect PSU, lowering power limit to 60% seems to mostly 'fix' the issue.

Just looking for any advice / ways to focus in on where the issue is, before spending yet more money on a PSU. Specs as follows:

  • ASRock Z97 Extreme6
  • Intel Core i7-4790K
  • DDR3-1866 (16GB)
  • Samsung SSD 850 EVO 1TB
  • Windows 10, etc
I've done all the obvious things I can think of.

As I say, likely need a new power supply, but maybe I am missing something.

All that said, when it worked, for brief periods, quite an upgrade from my 1070.
 
I'm almost certain your PSU is the cause. What is wattage of your current unit?

Buy another one from Takealot. It it doesn't fix the issue, returning it for a refund is simple.

Yea the 3000 series are hungry, need at least 650W according to Nvidia but i would recommend 850W 80+ Gold
 
Is the CPU overclocked? Take it back to stock and see what happens.
 
Yeah, remove some other items that are chowing power (extra hdd's, memory, other cards etc) and see if that helps more.
Also check when it fails, when its just sitting there or when its running a big game (and/or check settings).
You can also run GPU-Z etc to check power and other values on the card.
 
We need to know all your PC specs, that means the PSU as well, including its age (since they lose power output over time)

Done that already - the 3070 uses up to about 230/40, reducing that to 120/130 via power limiting the card seems to almost render it completely stable.

So when we built my son's PC earlier this year, I went for a 850W from the start, at that point with a 1080 GPU. Added a 3080 a few months ago, and the 850 is still going strong.

I had the PC on a 650 UPS, and that thing started bitching with the new GPU ... so I am 100% convinced it is your PSU
