Who has used this type of product successfully for waterproofing as a DIY project at home ? Painting is 1 of the few tasks i do on my own without getting in a contractor. I am seeing lots on unknown brands online who stock this type of paint (liquid rubber , Eco rubber , Rubberduck , Super rubber) . The well known brands like Plascon & Dulux do not have this as a product.

I have 2 minor leaks on my roof and the sheeting needs a paint as well . Trying to decide if i should stick with the usual membrane + waterproof paint and thereafter normal roof paint or just use a rubberized waterproof roof paint . Any advice ?

Duram has Rubberflex. I havent used it yet but do have 2 tins I am planning to use on my roof. Some of their dam sealant paints work really good. I use it for guttering, but with the current rain I think I need bigger gutters. Told my wife we probs need 200mm x 200mm box gutters.

Duram rubberflex and it comes in colours

This is that Pond sealant, it works well but more for gutters

For patching the roof I tend to use this but I also use the membrane with it even though it has membrane embedded too.

What type of roof do you have? There are many different approaches. Flat - torch on, IBR/ metal - acrylic or polyurethane coating, tiled - roof cement. Pap and lap isn't always the best approach

If its IBR roofing dont use a cooltech paint. Problem is that condensation sticks around with them. I have an IBR extended section and every morning even on hot days there is condensation. So I painted over it with a dark grey and still get that. If in Dubai or SE Asia I would happily use that paint but elsewhere not sure.

Just prime before you paint. Many dont. If painting IBR its best in the morning because in the Afternoon the roof starts cooling down, and so the paint wont happily dry.

I rubberized my house roof last month - perfect - no leaks plus a 10yr guarantee.

Duram Fibre + Membrane has worked well for me.

Then haven’t needed roof paint after as it was already colour matched.

What product or who did you use ? tiles or IBR ?
1 x main roof - tiles
1 x braai roof - IBR
2 x garage roof - torch on
everything was rubberized including parapets / braai chimney etc.

Paul's son does the preliminary prep work with his team (scraping off old paint / prepping joints etc)
all round service was excellent👍
booked 3 days - team arrived dead on time the monday morning & completed on time👍
Paul did the final rubberizing spray himself👌

How much did that set you back? Does not sound cheap, but replacing a roof is def more expensive than preventative maintenance

May I ask why?

I believe it is a short term band aid to the root cause that causes issues down the line and it's quite expensive to boot.

Fix the actual issue or use conventional methods. Besides this, sealing valleys is probably my biggest pet peeve, most of these roof contractors do both.

With tile roofs it makes the tiles incredibly difficult to lift after.

It makes tile and steel roofs much harder to prep for painting later, if you go rubber coating you are almost sure you are going to need to stick with rubber coating in future.

It doesn't last as claimed.
