I was only joking But yes python is more scalable than ruby

Unless you're talking globally popular scales, they're both as scalable as each other. I don't quite buy this notion that there are less python devs than Ruby ones, Rubyfuza was far smaller than PyCon.

As far as outsourcing goes, unless you know what you're doing, be prepared for a world of frustration. You need to get your specs exactly right, find the right partners and you have to exert tight control over the development if you want anything half decent. If you want super cheap SA devs grab some PHP devs fresh off an Intec Web Dev course. Expect to get what you paid for though.

Yeah, don't outsource to India unless you have a limitless maintenance budget. There are less than 100 RoR devs in SA that rear our heads from our caves. If you're looking for a freelancer, try http://brea.kfa.st/‎ I've worked with him and he's solid.

I think as a trial exercise I'll publish the link of the site here when it's completed and we can compare price, time and "quality" when it is completed and hopefully get the opinion of local Devs who can offer their thoughts.

As for the maintenance, it seems as if our Dev is doing a decent job (my experience being with Java, with very little Ruby I can't really say for sure). I scrutinise his work each day (every commit he publishes to GitHub)
