No I was looking at cars on gumtree and a few of them say they are runners. I thought it had something to do with the car running but needing lots of work or something...

Normally it's "daily runner", it means it goes but looks like k*k.
Rather go to Burchmores auction or look in Autotrader and see what's available there than buy off gumtree.

I have looked at Burchmores but for the price I am getting it mine is a very good deal methinks.
