Running a Guild

There is no real right or wrong answer, but one thing is certain... EPGP is not as "great" a loot system as people make it out to be ...
You need to run it in conjunction with other systems to patch the holes. Its also a total mindset change for you if you come from a DKP system, or EQDKP background.

Yeah for sure pugs and the such are free for all, ninjas all over, but for people in a guild you would hope they realize they are in a team and playing a team game

Edit: yeah no loot system is perfect :D

We (UFII) swopped over to EPGP awhile ago (still using it) without any hassles or QQ. [Before that Suicide Kings, also without any issues.]

Decay is low and people save up for the items they really want. Mostly the melee DPS chat among eachother to discuss certain drops / who'll benefit the most before an item drops.

If another class mentions in /raid that the drop is BIS for him then i'll certainly pass, as would the majority of others. It's just common sense / not being an ******.
Imho, all loot systems are open to some kind of abuse or fail, it's the people's attitudes / friendship / respect that makes it work.

There is no looting system on earth where everyone will be happy, it's just impossible.

What I will say is that I've been in a few server first guilds and each of them have had their own loot policy, and out of them all a looting council worked the best. Imo the reason for this is that the best players are rewarded with the earlier loot drops and this ensures that your dps/tanking/healing output scales consistently as you progress throughout the dungeon. Ofc those who are just plain crap at their jobs will have to wait quite a while to get decent items and this also quickly reveals who the loot whores are in the guild who are bound to leave to other Purple Pastures (weeds out the crap for you).

But in the end it all boils down to your guild and your members. Perhaps you should first establish your goals and work from there.

Can we safely conclude that EPGP is for guilds with dumbass raiders ?? it caters for retard raiders ? ;-p

I do believe the term we use for special cases like you is illiterate and idiot. I am glad you're not in our guild as you would swiftly be on the receiving end of a gkick.

I have clearly demonstrated that you do not understand the EPGP system, the mathematics behind it (or at least the end results of said mathematics) and still you demonstrate your lack of understanding.
Nay, I correct that. Your willfull misunderstanding of the bottom line, replaced by subjective opinion based on nothing but your ignorance of the facts.

Against all hope, seeing as you either failed to read or failed to comprehend either of my posts or both, here's the discussion all neatly summed up in the 3rd part of the original link I pasted:
http://www.worldofmatticus.com/2008/09/24/build-your-own-guild-part-3-the-dreaded-loot-question/ covering the Dreaded Loot question.

If I may, and I know it's taking a long shot with your limited attention span but I can sum it nicely for you.
-Any system works better if you have some courtesy rules or guidelines in place
-It won’t stop the QQ
-Every system can be played

In summation, back to what I said:
It's not the system that is the failure, it's the people. (and in your special case I am willing to bet you are part of the problem)

Agggg lighten up DMNknight... that was said with a bit of tongue in the cheek humour... stop being such an uptight knob.

Like I said, if it works for you, great, awsome... doesnt mean it works for anyone else.

Actually forget it.

I sometimes forget that the only meaningful conversations you can have are offline.

Trying to make sense on the interwebs is like pissing into the wind.
Intitially there is relief and then muddy piss and a distinct odour.

bradrap,

I kinda agree with your reasoning, have a loot council and let the people who does good dps/healing/tanking get the first drops so that the group scales well and peeps sitting below average wait...sounds a bit unfair, but makes sence as I see loads of crap players gear and the guys carrying the raid does not.

Loot Council, how does that work precisely?

At the moment we are good friends about 6 in the 10man raid and we discuss who gets it and for who it a better upgrade. But would like to expand to 25man then I need a system

If you only give gear to players you think are good, then your guild won't last long. Who will decide who is good and who is not? Open to either massive abuse or will generate so much distrust you will be lucky to fill a 10 man raid consistently. Your process of screening guild applications should be vetting people. If the odd eBay account gets in, then a gkick is in order.

I doubt anyone will want join a guild where have to be chommies with the "council" to get gear.

@Fay: The Loot Council system basically leaves the decision of who gets each item to the Officers to decide.

Loot Council *can* work, but imo it's just too open to abuse.
Favoritism is bound to rear its ugly head in time / on occasion, it's simply human nature. In a 25man raid, *someone* will always feel cheated after an item has been assigned which is bound to lead to QQ, warranted or not.

IMHO the best is to have a system in place where everyone's under the same rules regardless of who you cuddle with at night.

Edit: Erp, Zippy beat me to it.

How long does it more or less take to get a proper 10man guild running on a low to medium populated server? Struggling to get tanks for some reason on "Bronze Dragon flight", Horde.

Yea I haves asked the guild what system they want to use and how loot should be distributed, will see what the feedback is after the weekend.

It is quite hard to get a proper guild going atm. Its the end of the expansion, allot of people are taking time off wow, not very motivated etc. Thus allot of other guilds are also struggling to stay alive and thus the pool to recruit decent players from is very thin. Its specially hard if you a new and unknown guild with no good achievements to speak of. IE for what reason should other really skilled people join your guild?

We currently also have trouble finding an exceptional tank & ele shammy. End goal is CATA and then there will be an influx of players. good and bad
