Running a wireless network in G/N mode vs 2 seperate networks

My current home network comprises of a broadband router running wireless G.
On my network are a number of wireless G and a number of wireless N adaptors.
I would like to replace the wireless G broadband router with a wireless N router.

If I ran the new router in wireless G/N mode (for backwards compatability) would the N devices have to connect at a slower speed?

Would it be better to connect the old wireless G router to the new wireless N router via an ethernet port and run two wireless networks. One running wireless G and the other running wireless N.

Interesting question....
Normally the AP (wireless router) will only allow all devices to run one protocol, but you would have to check the specs of the device you looking at to buy.
Running G and N on 2 seperate devices makes sence, just depends if you really need all the speed or not?
Just make sure that if you DO go for both devices, that you double check the freq each device is running at so that they do not interfere with each other.

Just get an ADSL 2+ all in one device (modem router wireless) with DUAL band. Make sure it has TWO radios
Slow devices can go on one freq ( 2.4 ) and the fast devices on the other (5 )
Some of these also have the option of 3G which is handy for backup or alternative internet access.
 
Sorry but budget doesn't allow for a dual band router, so I have to make do with what I have which is an old wireless G router and a newer but still old wireless N 2.4Ghz only router.

Obviously if I run both Wireless networks, I'd pick channels with no overlap...most likely 1 and 11, but it also depends what the other wireless networks in the neighborhood are running on.
 
After setting up a 50 user laboratory to tun on 802.11N we found the following:

802.11 a/b/g equipment interferes with N.

If you want true .N speed & range then you have to disable all other a/b/g traffic in your area.

an 802.11B AP (with nothing connected to it) won't cause interference but if you have a device connected to it, it will.
