Hi

I would rather have gone for an external router that can do the PPoE by itself and then you just config your Mac TCP/IP to use it as a gateway and enter the DNS settings and voila.

As far as i am aware since the last time i spoke to them, the ADSL USB modems they supply(Marconni) do not have drivers for the MAC or Linux.
In any event i found very few ISP`s that do support Apple MAC any way.

ADSL--A Damn Slow Link

i have used mac os9, linux - suse - win me and xp.

the easiest installation was the mac os. normal details need to be filled in the correct fields.

i find that the mac is also rapid in linking and maintaining the link.

am using the standard mac software for the dsl link.
using telkom supplied router/modem.

linux was very straightforward once i got to understand the terminology...

xp - slightly different to me. needed to use the inbuilt ms software:
me - used telkom software when they installed the router.

Stephen,
Hope you got fixed up.
I run one of my Macs with "Enternet" (Sys) 9.2 works fine.
If you change to OSX all required PPoe etc. is built in & easy
to set up. The Enternet is PPoe & networks to OSX no problem. [:D]

Not many peaple in South africa use macs so there is no point in them training , peaple to handle such things , the amount of peaple useing macs is to irelevent , and to small.

Alex,

Not true, there are many Mac users on DSL in SA.
All the publishing houses, repro/print shops and ad agencies
mostly use Macs. We move large files, hence DSL connections.
I makes no difference which ISP you use as the "Net" is not platform
dependent. The object of Forums is to help others with set up etc.
Mac OS X has all you need for DSL/proxy servers. Sys 9 is a bit lacking
but all kinds of third party goodies exist.
Mac users would be outnumbered vastly by PC users but there are
many of us. A survey would be interesting.

KILL THE CAP !!!

Hay Alex,

Have they trained any of there staff in any OS?
I certainly haven’t come across them especially on the help desk.
I did meet on young chap who had a 12-month paid holiday in Malaysia but he still didn't know how to add a protocol to Windows 2000.
