Today the petrol attendant checked my oil and told me it was finished and filled it of course.
It was the only time I checked it since the 3 months that I got the car!

Can I find out whether there is permanent damage or not?
My car is a toyota conquest.

Thanks

Brain damage? :)

Hehe - sorry man, but I'm sure your car would at least have an oil warning light and a temperature gauge as well. How much were you charged to replace your "finished" oil?

I paid R60, and apparently this will last for 2 weeks.
I just got startled because I found out that the engine can get destroyed because of that.
There is a temperature gauge, but it's always near cold. There has been no oil warning light fortunately.

R60 for oil that lasts 2 weeks? I know nothing of cars and that sounds like pure BS to me.

I spend R60 on oil every 6 months, if even, and my BMW uses expensive oil.

Afaik your car would get crazy hot if it didn't have enough oil.

Temp gauge that stays by cold? That needs to be fixed should move to the middle.
Oil shouldn't run out unless you have a leak or release it yourself. So if you are using a lot of oil get that checked out to, especially on a 20ish year old car.
Your engine will eventually seize up if it ifs run without oil for long enough.

I think a conquest uses 3.5l of oil and R60 of oil is maybe 1l?

Anyway I don't think there was no oil in the motor and no permanent damage as a result of this incident.

It was R60 for two cans, i think they were around 500ml each. This was at BP.

So is it right to assume that there was oil in the car, just very little perhaps?

is their oil leaks where you park your car.

No it doesn't.
BTW there is a oil-warning light when the car starts.

Edit: I will research this today and tomorrow and ask some friends, before driving out again.
Thanks for feedback.

And look at your oil yourself, when the engine in cold.
Would you know how to do this.
what about enjin coolant [water ] and brake fluid.
you tube will be your friend there.

Does the car smoke at all?
Older engines may burn up some of the oil and you will need to top it up once in a while.

Here's actually what happens, this makes me feel better.

Once I start the engine then all lights go off (hand brake/engine oil/battery), b4 you turn the key to start the engine then all lights are on which is what confused me.

There is no smoke.
There is no funny sound from the engine.

Edit: They say once you hear knocking sounds, then it means you need a repair or complete replacement of engine, I haven't heard these any time within last week.

I think this entire thread is based on a garage attendant who is likely an immigrant from a sub-Saharan country. In other words - he meant your oil is low, as opposed to "finished".

No ways your car would be totally replenished with R60 worth of oil...

So relax.
