Running commands on a data card

Was wandering if someonce could help me out here...

I would like to know if its possible to run commands using these new Option HSDPA card. I am using them on prepaid (Vodacom and MTN) and would like to regularly check my balance. Also looking at the possibilites of SMS'ing without using the Vodafone mobile connect interface...

Any ideas ??
