How do you guys run your guild banks to ensure fairness and prevent it getting clogged up with crap?

I've chatted to some friends in other guilds, and it sounds like a lot of them use a donation point system, often with a dedicated banker. What boggles me though, is how do they define how much a stack of X or a crafted item is worth? Are there addons to manage this admin (can't seem to find any), or do most bankers out there stick to spreadsheets?

Aside from that, what other banking rules do your guilds have?

Just unlock a few tabs for everyone, deposit and withdraw. I mean how many times did you have things you thought had value in your bag from level 30 to 80 and beyond. Drop it in there and someone who can use it or sell it will take it. Have a tab for things really worth something or that can be used and only allow certain people to access it. As for the Gold, only the GM should have access to it. It must however be used for the guild and not just build up into the billions. If someone needs a flying mount and can't afford it, pay it from the guild bank and so on. That is what the guild bank is for. It's like a "fund" where everyone contributes if they so choose for the greater good of the guild and everyone in it.

They should know that the gold doesn't go in there for safe keeping but for the people of the guild to be distributed as the GM and officers see fit.

Good point on the gold, didn't even think of it with relation to mounts (we do have ye olde guild repairs for dungeons thing though).

We have something like that now, first tab is like a free for all tab. If you put something in there, don't come crying if it's gone next time you have a look. The rest of the tabs are for more "serious" stuff, like collecting Cata level mcguffins. Problem is, the first tab is getting a tad clogged up.... I guess it's my own fault though, for not making sure people know they can take as well xD

This is the main problem. People in a guild are scared of taking things as an example. They don't want to look needy or greedy. Just tell them to go ape. No one cares what happens in that tab and it will be clean pretty soon :p Yes, the repair costs and so on you do by default. The thing is, for people to put gold in the guild bank, they want to see it being used for intended purposes and not just for one or 2 players. Set up a gold rule in the Guild info and let everyone know exactly what the gold is used for and when. We even had lotteries at one stage in WoW :D. It's no one's gold but the guild's gold. Think of it as running a business and the business has a savings account for the employees. They contribute to this savings fund knowing the funds are being used for X Y and Z. with full disclosure.

We lets the shards ect, or even BoE items go for half the auction house price. So if a player want item, it costs lets say 1000g on AH, the player can buy it from the Guild Bank for 500g.

Other than that, Guild bank gold are used for repairs, supplies for Cauldrons (flasks) and Feasts.

We have several raid groups in our guild, and at one stage we assigned tabs for the raid groups. They will manage their own tabs etc.
Now we have 6 independent raid groups so the bank tabs are just not practical. Our Bank now are on an open system with some restrictions.
Due to accounts being hacked now and then, any main character have a limit of withdrawing 1-3 stacks from different tabs per day. If you need more stuff from a tab, all the officers have unrestricted access to the content. We usually have one tab for the very expensive equipment etc, but anyone can see the content and request something from the tab directly from officers or on the guild forum.
Gold is distributed through the guild repair function, everyone including their alts can get a repair of about 60g(for each alt in the guild) per day. And if the guild gold gets higher we increase the amount, but we are happy to keep the gold cash flow around 200k gold for now ;)

We never sell anything from the guild bank to guild members for gold. We have one tab which is locked and allows deposits which contains all our raid consumables for making flask cauldrons and contains high level enchanting mats. Our boe epics are sold for dkp. This is to ensure raiders benefit from boe stuff that drops in Firelands. If we end up with stuff that stays for too long it goes on the AH. Officers regularly clear out the other tabs if they get full of crap.
