Want to run a PP presentation on a 42" Plasma whilst continuing to work on the PC.

Problem is that when you open another application on the PC it stops the presentation from running on the plasma.

Can anyone advise how I can get it to run while working in other applications?

Chances are, if it's got video or hektic graphics - you can't have it on both monitors. But, if it's a normal presentation - you have 2 options.

1) Connect the monitor as an external monitor - this would require you to just connect the plasma to the VGA output and push FN F7 or something, depending on your laptop. The plasma will now show exactly what is on the monitor - ie if you move away from powerpoint, it will be shown on the monitor!

2) Connect the monitor as an external monitor - this would require to connect the plasma to your VGA out, and then right click on the desktop - goto properties, display settings, click monitor two and tick the "Extend my desktop onto this second monitor".

Then in powerpoint, you must goto set-up slide show and select "Display this presentation on monitor two".

You can now do other things on your laptop, while the presentation will run on the plasma. The only way to change the slides on the plasma is to have them timed - or move your mouse to the far right (off the screen, and onto the extended desktop plamsa and click).

Thanks for the input. No video, only photos.

It is being run off a workstation with a dual output graphics card (one VGA, one DVi). The plasma is set up as the 2nd monitor and have applied the extension of desktop to 2nd monitor.

We have also selected the presentation to show on monitor two.

The problem is that if we open another application (like Word, Outlook etc) and want to work in it, the presentation stops running until you click on the tab to make it the running app. It will not run in the background while you are working in another application for some reason.

Any ideas?

broken1 has described the procedure correctly!
What I do is drag the secondry application or presentation onto the extended desktop!
Then whatever you do on the primary display should not affect it!
Even if you minimize the presentation on the secondry desktop and maximize it again it'll still go to the secondary display until you drag it back to the primary display!

I use this a lot and it wirks well!
I have however never done this with a presentation.
I shall run a test.

I see what you mean. If you have the presentation running in the second monitor with timed slides...the slides don't change if another application is active on monitor one.

I can't seem to find a solution to that :-(

The set up I am picturing is that you are some sort of presentation, where the plasma behind you is showing images/infomation about your product and you are using the PC to capture poeples details or something. I think your best bet here would be to invest in a cheapish laptop or something that can run the program.

When I tested it, the timed presentation would run smoothly on the second monitor - but as soon as I selected Firefox - the timing would stop and the slides wouldn't change. Sorry...I don't think there is a solution?

Just a thought, is the resolution on both displays the same? Try and set your 1st monitors resolution to the same as the plasma"s, i know it is different aspect ratio's, and will look funny, but give it a try.

Thanks for the input all. There doesn't seem to be a solution to this (even if the resolution on both screens are the same).

I did read somewhere however that it is possible in Office 2007 on a Vista platform (blech!)

And Broken1, you assumed correctly - Estate Agency ;-)

When I was trying to figure it out - it was on Vista using Powerpoint 2007...so that wont help you!

I think the best bet is to go buy a cheap, second hand laptop...doesn't have to be amazing, spend 3k or so...and then you can have your cake and eat it!
