(rural) mobile broadband

Basically i'm looking for a mobile broadband solution that will allow me to update websites and email from "anywhere" (on land) along the SA coastline.
It looks like the mtn & vodacom gsm networks cover most of the coast, but i'd have to put up with 14.4 Kbps most of the time, which would be too slow!

can anyone suggest other options? Are there any mobile satellite options?

No coverage in South Africa.
Modem costs R16000.
GPRS speeds.

i just had a look @ satellite phones but they look much too pricey, at around $5 per minute.

now i'm wondering if it's possible to connect using "multiple" vodacom/mtn phones . i.e 3 phones = 3 x 14.4 Kbps
