Russia snubs West

It seems Russia is snubbing the West. They are recognising the two breakaway regions of Georgia, while at the same time saying
that they are no longer interested in WTO membership, in fact they
pulled out of some talks lately. They're also aiding Iran indirectly. The Russian Cruiser, Moskva is
also heading towards the Black Sea, while NATO has sent 9
warships into the zone. We'll see, what we'll see....

Hopefully common sense will prevail.
 
Typical Russian cold war mentality. This IMO is Putin flexing his KGB muscle. Only a complete tosser would support Iran. Seems the lines have been drawn. Maybe Nostradamus was right, maybe a bit off on timing. I am sure that Iran will be nuclear soon and then will try anhialate Israel, sparking the 3rd and final world war. Seems that the cold war will soon be back.
Common sense will never prevail when you have lunatics making policy.
It is inevitable IMO that nuclear war will come. They have these weapons and someon is going to use them. WHEN Iran become nuclear, we will be on a collision course.
 
Doubt there will be a new cold war. Russia is a crippled, wheelchair bound version of its former Soviet self. Maybe Putin is trying to relive the "good old days". The USA is so face ahead in this race there is no catching up. With its seemingly unlimited defence budget the USA is the only super power left.

However, any country with nuclear capability, no matter how small, and a megalomaniac at the helm is a great threat, regardless.

It depend who the Germans will support imo.
I think China and Korea will support RUssia.... maybe.

North Korea maybe, West?
Lets see, Israel, US, UK, Germany, Poland, Georgia, Japan etc. The list will go on, for both sides. The rogue nations that support terrorists and their terror will obviously be on the other side. ;)

Russia has got significantly more nukes than anybody else. They've also got the most advanced generation of ICBMs in the world that are pretty much immune to any anti-missile defence system. They can hit any point on earth with pin-point accuracy within 30 minutes. Their ICBM systems are highly mobile and thus very difficult to target in a first strike.

Also, Russia has got significant foreign reserves and no debt. They've also got vast reserves of natural resources (2nd biggest oil reserves in the world and biggest reserves of natural gas in the world). Their conventional military might, while no match for the US, is still devastating as the Georgians found out recently.

It would be a grave mistake to underestimate Russia.

It's a smart move, even though Russia now recognises their independence they know the US and it's friends will veto the decision brought to the U.N. by Russia and the regions independence will not be granted so Russia does not lose a thing.

I don't believe a word of this. They had less nukes than the US to being with (despite the US decreasing their arsenal), I doubt many of them are still in active service. It takes a massive military budget to maintain these sites, something Russia could not do during the 90s.

I would like to understand how you believe the Russian ICMBs are way most advanced than US technology. The US has advanced weaponry that has yet to be unveiled on the world; their research and development is something to be believed!

Somehow I feel the US definitely has the cash to be the only superpower. Oil reserves are plentiful in the US, as is natural gas. While not as prolific as Russia, they are by no means a defining factor between the two.

No, there could not be a cold war. That would involve two powers keeping each other in check, something Russia is incapable of doing.

If you were pointing to China, on the other hand, I could believe that there might be some truth in the warning.

Russia is definatley a resurgent military power, fuelled by their growing economy and all those new Russian billionaires running around, in time they will be more of a force to be reckoned with. Not as advanced as the US, yes, but a considerable power none the less.

This year, Putin signed a $200 billion, seven-year rearmament plan for Russia's military. The package includes money for the Pacific Fleet, a major Pacific submarine base and new land- and sea-based intercontinental missiles. Last month, Russia resumed global patrols by its long-range strategic bombers, sending two of them far across Pacific Ocean waters to the vicinity of Guam island, site of a major U.S. base.

That is what I'm saying. Keep an eye on Russia, but they are no where near powerful enough to maintain the balance of a cold war. (yet?)
