Russian hackers steal 1.2 billion passwords

A Russian hacker group has stolen an estimated 1.2 billion Internet credentials from major US companies and others around the world

This was on early AM news : BBC, Sky.

Also, they haven't only recently been stealing the data; been going on since about 2011 :
(so we've potentially been in trouble for a long time, already)

The hackers began using amateur spamming techniques in 2011 but accelerated to much more complicated schemes in April. The group likely partnered with another entity that helped them use large networks of infected computers known as botnets to do their work
