Are you referring to a wall socket or a splitter/filter?

You can always check for line noise. Do an isolation test by unplug ALL phones and filters from every phone socket in your house and plug the phone directly into it. Line noise or no dial tone? Log a fault for that and let Telkom know that you need to phone for emergencies. There is a higher priority on resolving phone faults than ADSL. If you have an alarm system connected to the phone then that sadly needs to be unplugged during your testing phase sadly so be safe.

If the line has a clear dialing tone then plug the router in first. Check the sync rate to see if it is correct. If yes then monitor the connection.

Doesn't drop? Plug in a filter and phone or filter and alarm system and monitor. Do this one by one until the point it starts dropping. That will point out what the cause is.

If the connection drops with only the router plugged directly into the socket then Telkom needs to be notified to look at a dropout/intermittent connectivity.
