So - we went to watch Beauty and the Beast tonight, and on the way there I got a huge log - literally - stuck in my tyre. I'll post pics of the big thing tomorrow.

Anyways - anyone have experience with performance tyres?

Currently I have 245 / 40 R17 Bridgestone Potenza S-02 on the back, and since I'll have to replace both at the same time - I thought there might be something better out there?

This was not a cost I was hoping for this month - probably R5000-R7000 gone :(

BTW - does anyone know if I can claim from the road accident fund? Damn guavamint is supposed to keep the roads clear.

Wasn't fun changing two wheels, spare on front, front on back - last night with my girlfriend sitting next to me - crime in this country sucks :(

AFAIK, Bridgestone SO2 are no longer made... they are now SO3.

I'd also check out Michelins. Also there is a new brand called Fulda excellent value for money and they are a good tire (not some no name brand junk). http://www.fulda.com

I've currently got a claim lodged with my local municipality for a damaged tyre (R2600 to replace) after hitting a pothole and am having enough trouble getting them to pay up even though at least 5 others have claimed for the same pothole (some with damage worse than my own)

I think its pretty unlikely that you'll get it right, but go for it anyway. Nothing to lose.

As for the tyres themselves I've heard that the Potenza's are good. No reason to change if you haven't had any issues :)

ROFL - SupaQuick just phoned me back - there's a specific RE050 for an S2000 - R700 more.

HAHA S2000 looks funny with the spare on

hmmm.... i just chuck on some nankangs, they work well on the rears , they worked better than my bridgestones RE tyres

Yeh - they varied about R200, but that's about a 15km drive to save R200 - and on a bucket wheel - I'd rather drive 1km and spend R200.

Anyways - the RE001's are on - ended up costing R4850 :( such a waste - I am going to try and claim it back from Road Accident Fund, or municipality.

How may km were on the tires?

Not sure, looking at the new ones, about half way through their life.

I kept the undamaged one - might be of use to someone - considering the Potenza RE050A goes for R3000 a pop
