so trying to help somebody, S21 ultra,

out of warranty with Samsung, brought in 2023

reading online seems to be quite a few issues with this happening, and various reports of free fixes, (none work for me)

and apparently a service bulletin out there for a free replacement (till sept 2025), but went and asked samsung who told me this is false, or not active in SA,

so its a replacement LCD? and this is where I need to deal with the pakistani okes who are plain crooks,

apparently 3 different kinds, one clone with no fingerprint reader, goes for between 1,5K and 2K
and one slightly better, still cloned display goes from 2,5K to 3K
and one Original starts from 3,5K to 4,7K.

Samsung themselves quoted me replacement of 4,7K, vodacom was 6,8K
ridiculous prices, and the phone works perfectly if you can deal with a permanent green line in the middle of the phone constantly.

what do you okes do, just trade it in and buy something else?
fix it? use it this way?

Replace it with an original screen, get it done by Samsung and you'll know it's the correct one. R4.7k isn't really that much if you look at the price of the fong kongs. Unless they want an upgrade but from an S21 they'd need to look at an S24 or upwards which is going to be more than 4.7k.

Never get the local shop to replace a screen , even if they tell you it is the original.

Don’t you love cracked Samsungs and didn’t yours get stolen? Just buy it off them.

when you say trade it in what do you mean ..... do you want to trade it in with the official Samsung Store - i wouldn't recommend that because replacement phones are going to be really pricey and they will give you next to nothing for the trade in ...... rather look at saving a fair amount of money and going the Takealot route

just consider that its going to cost your buddy R5k to get a new screen - if he doesn't mind a new Samsung then he should seriously look at this ie with the repair cash plus add a bit more - and sell the S21Ultra to someone else willing to fix it and go with a brand new phone

https://www.takealot.com/samsung-ga...xGhjrGjEUoPzjrswtA21pcSIVpvA2bXA-STNyN6S2hr--

this phone has all the software that a S21 ultra will give you and even the same software that even a S24Ultra will give you ie all the Galaxy generative AI plus Samsung Dex and about the only things he will miss is the S-Pen and he will maybe have lower camera's but the camera's on this phone would easily match if not beat the 108mp sensor on the S21 Ultra (which wasnt really very well rated anyway) AND the bonus is that it will work way faster than the S21 Ultra because all the benchmarks are +/- 100% higher than the S21Ultra figures

if he doesn't want the Dex or the generative AI and is happy with how fast the S21 Ultra was he can save some more money and get this

https://www.takealot.com/samsung-ga...xGhjrGjEUoPzjrswtA21pcSIVpvA2bXA-STNyN6S2hr--

it isn't as highly specced in the hardware as the S24FE and you lose the AI stuff and Dex but its still a good phone for all the reasons that you need an actual phone for

If the guy is truly fed up with Samsung and doesn't want a repeat of software related nonsense he can look at something like this which has similar speed and functionality to the Samsung A56 but its going to save him a fair bit of money compared to the S24FE as well

BUT if he is scared about bootloops and the problems that some Xiaomi phones encounter then he should look for similar phones from Oppo or Honor etc BUT honestly i would hesitate to fix that S21FE at the prices quoted from official places

or you can do what the Iphone guys say and get an iphone 13 like this one - it might not have all the best features and AI stuff but if you update to ios26 then it will give you all that liquid glass and pretty effects if that is what floats your boat and it still looks like a newer more modern R40k iphone too ..... and Apple makes a good phone i will give them that so also a serious contender in the up to and in around R10k options

well I already have an Iphone 6s I fixed with activation lock, when they forgot what the Pin was
did actually manage to get everything working, Cost 1K and now I have an iphone 6s with outdated but still working software,
problem is its the tiny storage one, I think like 32 GB, so barely anything works on it, but yes I do indeed have an Apple phone ,
Hardly use it, mostly use it for streaming radio.

S21FE cracked screen worked like a charm, until somebody smashed my window and took it, so that's life I guess,

been borrowing a Note 9 up till now, working well, but I need a dual sim
and something a bit newer,

this S21 ultra looks nice but the screen being covered with a green line makes me very hesitant,
been to Samsung price is truly mad, Vodacom store even worse,

so will present the options I got so far and gonna see what they say,

hesitant to move to something higher like S22 or S23 or S24, as one little crack and its gone,
cost more than the phone worth,

had an A25 as well, till that got stolen off me as well,
so life carries on I guess.

appreciate the tips, bit outside my price range, most Id be willing to spend on a phone is between 3,5 to 6,5K
must be Samsung, as I have a samsung watch that only works fully if its connected to a samsung phone,

I know one can get so many other brand phones, had my fair share of Chinese knock off phones with marshmallow batteries and weird Chinese bugs, even heard on Innjoo?, I had a Innjoo fire,

and yes even had a oneplus, the X model that I managed to brick so completely with rooting that I was so happy they just credited me and didnt check too closely :-D

had an LG G4, that kept overheating and then simply switching off mid call, managed to return that

so far the brand of phones that has worked well for me has been Samsung, not been perfect, had my fair share of weird bugs and life timer activation, where you see weird errors that make no sense after the 2 years ownership is up

but for the fact you can find cases and parts and repair and everything with it, its difficult to beat.

if we could get Pixel, would love that, same if we could get fairphone, really love that.
would abandon Samsung in a heartbeat for those 2 brands.

Apple, just no, for obvious reasons, had a 12 along with an Ipad air and a 6S, and me and Apple are not friends.
in actual fact I'm the antichrist of apple.

Replace it at Samsung.
But he doesn't want to spend the same amount of money to replace the screen as it costs to get a second hand Samsung (though an S21 Ultra will still be more second hand)
