Hi

My S3 cannot connect via usb with Samsung KIES.
When i plug in my S3, windows cries about the 'usb device not recognized'.

I've uninstalled KIES, downloaded the latest version, re installed, restarted laptop... no luck.
I'm running Windows 7(64bit). I can connect via Bluetooth though.

Any advice ?

It's definitely a driver issue. Sorry, I don't know what to advise you :(

Same issue. Some PC's work, some don't. Win 7 64 bit. Found 64 bit drivers, that didn't help.

MTP sucks. Keep it simple and use UMS. Damn you samsung.

Have you checked your USB drivers under your Device Manager? You should be able to update the drivers from there...

If your pc is connected to the internet, connect the s3 via usb. go to windows update, there is a popup to install/update a driver. Once you do that it will recognise the s3.

I'm sitting with the same problem but with a Galaxy S II.
When I connect, it immediately pops up with a window saying the USB device was not recognized.
When I go into device manager and check the driver installed, it says no driver was installed.
When i manually try to find the driver, it tries to install but comes back with an error saying the device could not be started..

Im running stock ICS..
Phone works fine except for usb connection.

Same problem with Kies on Win7 Ultimate 64. It evens pops up that message now when I plug in my iPad. Its as if Kies and the drivers have confused the whole USB system now....

I've just connected to another pc and it actually picks it up there, yet on my laptop it immediately says unrecognized usb device.

Can't do a system restore, because the restore points I have are recent.
How can I get rid of the drivers etc, without re-installing windows?

My problem was the cheap cable I was using, seems MTP is more sensitive to the cable quality.

Tried my original s3 cable and original desire cable and both work.

I am using the original cable so it has to do with my laptop... not sure what happened or how to fix it.

I had the same issue, I fixed it yesterday. I think it's the latest kies update that screwed things up, I had no problem before it updated on my pc. I fixed it by going on Samsung Mobile website; they released a "usb driver" software update there on the 25th September (yesterday). Download it, uninstall the old one, and replace the old one (you'll find it in program files in your Samsung -> Kies) with the new one you downloaded. Then install the new one et voilà! I'm not a pro, but worked for me.
