Hi,

Got my sister the S4 mini yesterday, she finally leapt from BB

Now she is complaining that she struggles to connect to Voda mobile data due to poor signal in the area, she just gets edge apparently.

Without me being able to see the phone does anyone know if 2g / edge can be selected as the preferred network in settings, maybe it is trying to lock on a very poor 3G / HSDPA signal.

Thanks

If you want to select 1 over the other then go to Settings - Connections - More Networks - Mobile networks - Network mode and select between the 2
WCDMA Only - 3G only
GSM Only - Edge/2G only

Having migrated from BB to S4 mini I did notice that the BB performed better with poorer signal strength and did not fall back to Edge as quickly as the S4 mini.

Ask her to see if she has "Power Saving" enabled. I found this to also have an impact on my 3G.

Thanks, did that affect connectivity or just battery use?

Both.

I just set my phone to flight mode at night when I go to bed to extend the battery life. Using the power saving mode did not make a big enough difference as I still only get a day out of it.

Personally I'm getting one of those battery extender packs off BOB that just clip onto your phone. They claim to be twice the battery strength as the standard unit so hopefully I will get 3 days between charges.
