SA broadband penetration 2010: How do we compare?

Does the last table means Cell C has 200 000 subscribers?

Thanks Telkom! Enjoy your several million Rand bonusses, you deserve it.

Ok, I am working off a very vague memory here. Did the DoC not state a couple years ago that we must not compare ourselves to the rest of the world and they then chose the OECD bunch to compare ourselves to? Pity we now right on the a$$ end of the OECD listings as well.

Seems like no matter what benchmark it is SA always has to be at the bottom. maybe its because our politicians like to lie down and its more comfortable on the flat line at the bottom of the chart than it is on all those bumpy letters if someone else is lower than us?

Gov can spin as much as they want, but the facts speak for themselves and cannot be "un-spun". Unfortunately not enough people are aware of just how far behind we are, and the reasons behind it. They believe the spin doctors when they say "we are on the cutting edge".

iBurst, Neotel and other fixed wireless broadband providers have also [-]showed[/-] shown fair growth, serving just under 200,000 consumers with fixed wireless broadband services across the country.

Sums it all up.

Wait a minute, is SA a OECD member country?

According to OECD webpage SA is a Non-Member Economies - Enhanced engagement countries

Piet Pompies, Joe Soap and Suzy Matwetwe cannot affort the DSL line rental costs in this country. I cannot see these figures changing too much in the foreseeable future.

syupid mee , what does OECD (YAA - Yet Another Acronym) mean ?
Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development ?

Exactly my thought, but then Cell C's HSPA+ network was commissioned post June 2010.

Seems like no matter what benchmark it is SA always has to be at the bottom.

Except in Sub-Saharan Africa!!!

What about mobile broadband!!!

It would have been interesting to see population penetration rate included in the tables as well!!!

As a significant part of our Government is in Cuba at the moment local penetration rates have shown a remarkable decline. :D

Keep in mind... Half the countries phone lines are stolen daily and people tend to use wireless over wired for that reason, I would do anything to have adsl lines, but if telkom refuses to install phone lines.. what am i to do but use 3G /wimax/WiFI
