SA could get 12 nuclear power plants

Good news if this is true...But who's going to run it?

The 1st 1 (if they start in 2010) will only start to operate in 2016 - 8 years from now. A training program should be setup to match that time-line. My concern is more that by 2016-2025 we probably need another 20 to just replace the other power stations that have come to end-of-life, never mind the increase demand.

Oh snap.. we want to spread 12 nuclear stations in a country with an average IQ of 72
even the worlds smartest nations cant handle them right

& don't these power plants increase the cancer rates around them?

I say wind, wave current, new coal refining, new improvements in solar, or any of these:

should solve our problems, anything but nuclear

12 nuclear plants with unskilled staff

hmmm i dont wanna live anywhere close these things

boooooooooooom, SA wiped out by BEE

Better get the kitchens right for the frogs as they are very picky about what they eat.
None of this Braai and Pap nonsense. They require a refined menu.

With all those Base Load Stations we could run cables up to The Mediterranean and connect France to the Grid and supply the whole of Africa with power.
In the short term 12 is quite a steep number.
Let's hope that we do need this quantity in my lifetime as that would mean our Country is doing very well economically, Zuma has come and gone without incident and The African Renaissance has begun in earnest.

I sincerely hope this will be the case and my G Grandchildren will be born in my country South Africa.
I so much want to be positive about SA. :)

Problem with this is - after thinking it over - is that we are a water-poor country.

Which means they'll either have to build these nuclear stations at the coast for an uninterruptible water supply, or either next to a good source of water, or look at a closed-circuit cooling system.

If everybody works together then all will go well - and leave the politicians out of this for once.

but knowing them, I won't be surprised if they will try to enrich themselves once more...

We all know they will

Well why does it take some French company to plan on building 12 Power stations for us when our whole freaking country can't do it for ourselves? I guess we aren't really that well off.
