SA earthquake - the details

Scary, I thought I was imagining it, only felt it slightly possibly because we were below ground level.
 
Just chatted to a geophysicist friend to confirm I'm not smoking something and in his words we are on a huge number of fault lines biggest one being in Worcester and plenty under Milnerton apparently, they just aren't very active.

He did say we don't have a subduction zone like Japan or the US...but I have absolutely no idea what that means.

We are on a stable craton, but we have huge faults. (I have no idea what <<<< means).
 
We don't have any plate tectonics to worry about, but a ton of faults, mining destabilizes areas where these faults occur. The KOSH area (Klerksdorp, Orkney, Stilfontein and Hartebeesfontein) are riddled with faults. This is where the "Golden Arc" that contains the gold bearing reef takes a dive, deep underground where its too difficult to get too.

I think i screwed up the words Tectonic plates with fault lines.

Were is this Karoo fault line?

I felt nothing! I was at the gym at the time... makes me wonder what they made that place out of?

Yep, the Milnerton one runs a mere ~8KM from the Koeberg nuclear power station.
