First of all I would like to thank the author for this mention.
I am currently listed on the top 500 New Free games. It has been an up and down battle this week but I am currently in spot 311. Not the greatest achievement by any standards, I agree, but as an indie first time developer I might have just as well won the lottery. I am not absolutely sure how the rankings are structured and suspect this might be in SA only.
I am sorry that the post may have upset you. I have spent hours on development and equally on promotion which resulted in this write up. I never intended to directly compete with other games for a write up or upset any fans of other games. I merely did what any other first time developer would have done to get his new game out into the world. Promote like crazy. I am sure that if you had developed a piece of software before you would have done the same. It is possible that the other game you mentioned might not have submitted their game for review, and if he had he would have received even more publicity than just a mention. This was not paid advertising. It was simply the author reacting on a request for help with publicity, for which I am very grateful.
I agree the game might not be for everyone but I am very proud to release it as a first time indie developer and I am sure that a lot of people will enjoy it. Sam the robot and most of the Lab was designed and drawn by me and even with Unity3D being one of the easiest platforms to pick up, it took a lot of time bringing this game into existence.
All said, I appreciate your honest feedback. As a developer one should be open to all comments, good and bad. That is the only way you will be able to better yourself.
If you do find a new first time indie game that you enjoy remember to let me know and I will gladly feature it on my website. My initiative "PlayItForward" is aimed at helping other first time indie developers get the same, well deserved, exposure.
I wish you all the best.
