SA grid not bad, for a third world state

Even first world countries have made the error of inadequately planning for future electricity demand. They certainly screwed it up here.

It's quite clear some people never ventured out of their little white enclaves, claiming that South Africa had first world infrastructure. It did for white people and still does generally.

If it wasn't for apartheid this country would have had nothing.

Not the case. They could have developed the whole country and all groups. They probably weren't really up to the challenge though.

Read all my posts again and again, I mocked the notion that the Apartheid power grid was better than the current power grid. Your assertion is that we have actually downgraded from a superiour Apartheid power grid to a lame Democracy power grid which cannot be compared to 1st World countries.

I gave the Apartheid government credit for creating more than adequate power generating capacity, but their power grid was less stellar because it could not reach the majority of the population. I even gave you a definition of what is a power grid. But it appears that your racist nature is incapable of comprehending my previous messages.

If there is any blame against the Apartheid government, its that they could not connect the masses to the power grid. And OPs article was not about Apartheid, you are the one to bring it up and its superiority.

The ANC regime has followed a systematic policy of removing money from government controlled institutions.

The way in which they have done this is to cut down on expenditure by not spending on maintenance, by removing 30%+ employees (mainly the expensive competent knowledgeable individuals) , which caused profit to be artificially increased, which in turn causd large dividends to be declared, which in turn were paid out.

Of course the profit never really existed, so when maintenance eventually has had to take place, the money which should have been available wasn't there. Nor were the people competent to carry out the maintenance/expansion there.

Result? System failure. Apply this scenario to the various parastatals (eskom, transnet, telkom, education, hospital service, etc. etc.) and you get the country to its current state.

If apartheid did not happen this country would have been the same as the rest of Sub-Saharan Africa.

"They" would not have been able to do anything as the country would not have been governed by them.

Fact is that the ANC inherited a fully functional system which they failed to maintain and expand in an intelligent manner. The country had a decade of unprecedented growth but instead of investing into our future we bought submarines.

Completely untrue. The Nats could and should have developed a society of equality, while maintaining a firm grip on government affairs. If everyone had been given equal rights to education and work, the culture of entitlement and self-enrichment that currently permeates the ANC would never have developed. Proper education would also have mostly expunged the cultural beliefs that hold South Africa back today, e.g. ancestors, muti, Zulu "Kings". That would have set the stage for a gradual transition to a government with democratically-elected leaders, all of whom would share the same beliefs and ideals with the vast majority of the country's population. Hence those leaders would actually do the jobs they'd been elected for.

Apartheid wasn't just something inflicted by the Nats on the non-white population of South Africa, it's a blight on our society that will be felt for generations to come.

They could have but they did not. Looking back in history one can see why they took the route that they took.

But I maintain that apartheid contribute to SA becoming the powerhouse of Africa. Full democracy in SA in 1948 would have been disastrous. There would have been nothing to blight.
