SA growth breaking records

come on you mongering white supremacist twits... where is the hate speech around this article?

you know who you are whom constantly run down every possible thing about our country... where is your view now?

idiots.

edc was banned a while ago, so one of the guys you are waiting for is not going to show up :)

Anyways, it is very good stuff, our economy has been performing great the past 3 years especially.

IIRC, growth slowed down a bit, inflation went up a bit, but so far it has been a much smaller fall in growth than the previous decades cycles and a much smaller rise in inflation than usual.

We are however at a bit of a critical point now, how well will we keep the inflationary pressures in check and break the trend of inflation dampening long term growth.

Time will tell, but I think we are starting to get it right.

i would like some comments from all the silly fools who were telling me south africa's economy was not growing ect ect. esp edcomnomics! (mr i have studied economics but fail to even mention emerging markets)

The economy is indeed growing but it is being fueled by enormous amounts of debt. I expect that the piper will be paid one day. The ANC still needs create jobs for the 25-50% of unemployed people in SA. There is only so much tax they can squeeze out of the current tax base.

No dude. Every year sees record collections in tax revenue.

:D lmao :D

Am I one of them?

Anyway, to quote myself from the 1st thread about this:

Yeah, so much so that supply (electricity, beer, cement) cant meet demand and that leads to higher prices due to demand which leads to strikes so people can afford to live which leads to interest rate hikes if the strikers get what they want...

Damn economics!

Its a vicious circle...

What i dont understand is - the economy is 'record setting' and every year the tax revenue is 'record setting', yet there isnt any money for the police force, or service delivery, or teachers.... etc.... very strange....

Equilibrium Stage

No dude. Every year sees record collections in tax revenue.
I think by next year or the year after this is going to level off?

Due to the record number of Amnesty Applications, good Company Earnings etc we may be riding the crest of the wave as far as Tax Revenues are concerned.
Just like everything in the market place even taxation revenues can dwindle.

I just hope that our taxes are spent in a way that we will be able to reap returns in years to come.
Government is lagging on Capital Expenditure. The focus is there, but the implementation is slow and retarded.
South Africa for instance is running out of Electricity Capacity very fast. Our roads are not getting younger. Airports, harbours are getting log jammed.
We are trying to throw money at the problems, but will that money be implemented properly? Officials are unskilled and there is temptation to be corrupt with Public Money.

One way or the other we are well positioned to be leaders in Africa and a good haven for foreign investment, but there are many hurdles still to cross in establishing investor sentiment. The country is in the Equilibrium Stage in my opinion. A fine balance of moving forward into a good future or we stagnate like just about every other African Country that achieved democracy where politics, laziness and ignorance kills development and growth.

Will the next Minister of Finance be as talented as Trevor.
Like the debate about who is going to be the next ANC President one can add to that picture and ask who will be our next Minister of Finance? This may be the pivot point in South Afirca's future.
