SA Internet users - you do not get the speed you pay for

A good start would be the implementation of minimum standards for each category of service.

As a fixed line ADSL user on a 2mb uncapped connection I completely agree, I am certainly not getting what I'm paying for! It's a ripoff in the first place to be paying close on R500pm for ADSL but then to not receive the goods as advertised is a royal PITA!

The most frustrating thing though is troubleshooting the connection, phone calls to Telkom and they tell you to call your ISP, phone the ISP and they say it's Telkom, it's like nobody wants to take responsibility for anything.

SA internet is a shambles, it's not reliable at all. And did I mention it's ****ING expensive?

I get full speed but that's only because I use a vpn to bypass their shaping. I am paying for a uncapped unshapped account thought the irony....

Well... doh... If I got what I was paying for then I would have 2x multiplexed 60mpbs+ fiber optic lines uncapped, unshaped, un-throttled and more TV channels than DSTV offers + HD sports, movies, series, etc. With a voip based telephone service included.

All this posing just assumes we do not know what is going on in the world.

Hang on a sec, was this the bunch that were offering an S3 as a prize for running speed tests?

I doubt it. They were offering a netgear router on these forums with a modded firmware that monitored your home dsl connection for a period of a few months. I had the router at home so my line stats would be included. There were no speed tests requested that I know of.

YAY... ANOTHER REPORT...

Why don't we just throw that report on the pile and carry on doing sweet blowall...
