The question of why StatsSA keep using figures/actuaries/formulae from an alternate universe, quickly swept under the rug...the guy being quoted here is delving into pure speculation, it is obvious with the use of may and %uncertainty, clearly he has very little evidence.

So what, ZAR fluctuation is a 2 edged sword, affecting either imports or exports, and consequently job losses somewhere along the line.

Well that's no stretch & highly likely with George W re-elected and leading the charge of the monkey parade. The reason ZAR has 'strengthened' against USD over the last 12-18 months is because USD has weakened, not just against ZAR but all other major currencies.

I don't see telkom going and installing analogue lines anywhere near the 'skwata' kamps, besides the vast majority rent out their cell phones by the minute to make some extra money. The number of people who posses cell phones is probably the kind of skewed reasoning that StatsSA use, especially since cheaper pre-paid handsets have been sold for a while now. If cell phones are going to be used as a yard-stick why not use the number of post-paid contracts vs pre-paid sim cards, or something slightly more refined.
With a very high illiteracy rate I don't see how SA can possibly be anything other than a poor country, what was SA again 1 up from the country with the worst illiteracy?
