SA iStore robbed

In all honesty how do they carry R1 million of stock?

Even at the retail that's 160+ iPads, 90 iPhones, 40 iMacs or a combination of them. Volume-wise that's pretty large and heavy (50-100KG) as well - and then there is getting it into the car or bakkie?

EDIT : And there cannot be too much cash instore anyhow. Oh - I see 4 guys and 3 vehicles

So 25kg each?

Well I don't know what combination was stolen - what's an iPad box? 1.4KG? It could be iPad, iPod, iPhone, iMac or the Air laptops

So if it was purely iPads that's 160+ @ 1.4KG each = 224KG or 90+ iPhones @ 70KG of iPhones.

Updated earlier with follow-up story from Sapa.

Further updated now with comment from Core:

We confirm a robbery took place at iStore Centurion this morning. The safety of our customers and staff are our number one priority, and very extensive security measures have been put in place.

The SAPS has made a number of arrests shortly after the incident.

Finally, we would like to emphasise that all devices stolen from iStores will be deactivated and locked irreversibly, rendering them worthless for use and resale.

I want to know why people arnt frisked before they enter a shopping center.

I wonder if they'll start doing the metal detectors again

Try do that at any shopping centre were 30000 or 40000 people pass through daily... its not possible.

The Pavillion in Durban tried it a few years ago after an armed robbery, it impacted foot traffic too much and customers didn't like it and kept complaining.

The location of the iStore is somewhat suspicious.
It's at the center of the mall(ground floor), and an easy escape isn't really possible.

At the one side, you have a mandatory parking lot next to the Hotel.
On the other side(further) there's mandatory parking as well.
The third option is over the lake, but I doubt they chose that one.
There are two other escape options, but both aren't viable.

Carrying that weight, even just 10Kg, requires some endurance.
How the hell did no one manage to stop them?

If this were a few years back, and the gun shop was still there(next to post office) this may have been a different story altogether.

They probably used the exit into the garage (past the Telkom Direct store that was robbed last month).

Stop them with what, a parking ticket or a plastic boom?

Well yes, they could have disabled the booms. The booms are metal, so although it wouldn't immobilize the cars, it would damage them enough to make other road users suspicious and easily identifiable.

They should have a boom + spike strip like the casinos have.

You put too much faith in other road users.... they just ignore things like that. If it doesn't involve them they don't want to know anything about it.

SA robbers are getting classy. Who woulda thunk?
