SA local elections set for November 1

Registration closed on Monday at midnight. How did you not know about this? It was advertised everywhere; there were also multiple posts about this on this forum. Or are you using Internet Explorer?
I really had no idea :( didn't see those threads. Arrgh its fine, guess more reason to visit the area I used to reside in (Vredehoek, CPT).

Was also quite present on my social media for some reason. Anyhow, you're lucky you get to visit a nice area :) haven't been there since beginning of 2020 (pre-COVID), but I remember going a couple of times to a nice cafe on Derry Street (Red Sofa Cafe).

ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba has debunked claims that his party is xenophobic. On Tuesday social media users expressed how they felt about certain political parties ahead of the local government elections.

One user claimed ActionSA “constitutes a test of how seriously people take the issue of xenophobia in SA”.
Mashaba responded, claiming ActionSA’s position on illegal immigration was “misunderstood” and “mischaracterised”.

“As ActionSA, we want people of the world to come to SA, but they must do so legally. And when they are here, they must respect our laws,” he said.

“There are always those who are intent on misunderstanding us and mischaracterising our position on the issue of illegal immigration. They call us xenophobic.”

Without digging into each manifesto properly, and based off the DM's article the general thrust of each party is exactly what we would have expected.

The DA is trying to push good governance and decent(ish) solutions for the medium/long term.
The EFF is playing the populist game and the stuff mentioned in the article is all about the short term "win" without any regard of the medium/long term destruction that will cause.

The problem is anyone with a half functioning brain will know voting DA is better for the country, but majority of South Africa don't have a working brain

So this election will be
ANC
EFF
DA
others

The EFF politics are all about the short term, hence all the flip flopping, it's all about doing anything for Juju and his top cabal to stay out of jail, doing and saying anything for votes, and doing anything possible to discredit those who see through them.

The DA unfortunately don't have much going for them in terms of the poor electorate, they don't know what to say to them, they have nothing to show to them, because even where they govern the poor people are still living in squalor.

Unfortunately for them, what they did in Tshwane has opened the door wide for the ANC and the EFF to come back, I just hope Mashaba gets a decent piece of the pie as well, because as useless as they were in Tshwane, the ANC are not going to be better.

We really should stop saying that, no one cares about the country, it's the local elections, It's about the ward and the municipality, it's about service delivery, it's about what we can see and touch, not some distant vision and ideology for the country.

I would largely tend to agree with you in broad strokes about the DA and the poor electorate, but I do think they've done a fair chunk in the places they do govern for the poor electorate that they had initially, but where they do come unstuck is that there is an influx of poor people and it just overwhelms any plans that they did put in place to try get things better.

One can just hope that much of our poor electorate sees through the EFFs populist short term crap though.

Even at the national level, we shouldn't really care about vision and ideology tbh, it should be about concrete action and definite policy implementation that helps the country grow.

You are 100% right about the local election stuff though, its all about service delivery

As far as I have noticed, he has always talked about illegal immigrants.
I really don't understand why South Africans jump to Xenophobia as soon as the issue of illegal immigrants is raised, it's like emotional blackmail.

I think it's much easier to throw xenophobia around when you don't want to have tough conversations.
