SA local elections set for November 1

That would be a good outcome.

For me, the ideal outcome from these elections would be to see some stable coalitions (DA/ActionSA/MMusi's Independents) in JHB and Tshwane... and to see the ANC out of an outright majority in eThekwini. I think there is a chance the DA could take PE outright, or with one or two smaller parties in coalition which would be good for PE as well in the long run.

ActionSA as well as EFF, if required. Everything is about power really and all of them want to keep ANC out.

I very much doubt the DA will get into bed with the EFF unless its absolutely necessary. That is a hugely poisoned chalice for all the opposition parties, the EFF have shown that they cannot be even vaguely trusted with any sort of power.
The EFF need to be shut out of any position of power in the major metros in my opinion.

Early days, but the EFF 65% just doesn't seem to be happening ......anywhere.

Nobody (outside of the Commanders inner circle probably) thought they had even a vague shot at 65%...

I would want to see the EFF slide back a bit in support in comparison to the 2019 Elections... that in and of itself would be a slightly positive sign in terms of our voters.

2/3rds of the voting stations have reported their results in uMngeni and the DA is leading by 25 percentage points (58--33). Steenhuisen would love to have a DA-run municipality in KZN!

I REALLY don't get why they are seperate parties. seems counterproductive to me.

In the long run it is, but for the moment it makes sense.. Herman and the DA didn't see eye to eye at the time, but if they end up in power together without needing the EFF and IFP then I think they will start seeing eye to eye again.

Who would have thought that barely a month before the 25th anniversary of the signing of the democratic Constitution, South Africa would return to minority rule. For this is effectively what has happened.

Yesterday, in the local government elections, only a minority of eligible South Africans chose to vote. The vast majority either didn’t register or registered but then didn’t vote. The no-vote included tens of millions of people, most of them coming from South Africa’s swelling underclass, made up of people who are young, gifted, black… and poor.

It is a terrible irony that the biggest vote was the no-vote; the biggest political movement, the political party that doesn’t exist on the ballot; the most coherent statement on the elections, the incoherent abstention of the politically unorganised.

I'd be bleak if it was uMngeni that they get and not eThekwini but hey any progress is good progress...

Also them being in charge of the capital of the province would be a mighty unpleasant thing for the ANC anyway.

I'm sure JS would love a DA run SA. It is good that more parties win municipalities and metros away from the ANC.
