SA Politics Thread Part 10 : The GNU Has Crashed

What is Dean smoking. How can his messaging be so misaligned with his party. I didn't watch the interview but this is ridiculous. Unless there is some 4D chess here that I'm not understanding, the DA is challenging the entirety of the act in court. Substantively and procedurally, they disagree with it.

It's a strategy. GNU ministers (incl. Dean) keep the peace, while Zille leads efforts from the party side.

He also clearly said that no court would allow a farm to be nil compensated...

Someone should have tipped the right wing DA supporters of this strategy, because they are tripping.

Nah, he should avoid all comments that seem to soften the Expropriation Act or in some way seems to support it. He should just say that the DA is taking the Act to court (which it is) and that is his only comment. He can also decide not to actually utilise the EA, which would also be fine (and I suspect that is his strategy).

I agree to disagree. If Dean decided to throw the ANC under the bus again at NAMPO while the whole government is there to try and fix what the ANC broke... It would give ammo and embolden ANC, saying DA is dividing everyone again and "nywe nywe Apartheid".

He didn't soften anything either, he also didn't disavow the court case.

He is a Minister of government, when journalists are asking him questions, they are not interested in how his party feels, they are asking him questions as a representative of government, unless they are being explicit in stating the question is in his capacity as a DA member.

There are better ways. Dean says we should be grateful to have this legislation and be careful what you wish for. Meanwhile his party is actually wishing for it. So if the DA win their court case, which seems very likely, will Dean tell us that we’re worse off?
