I've said it before, negative campaigning against other parties, instead of campaigning for yourself, doesn't work in SA. People want to vote for someone, not against someone. And for that you need to speak to what you have to offer.

This is something Zille still hasn't learned. Campaigned against Zuma, massive loss. Campaigned for DA, massive gain. It's also one of the reasons why so many don't like them and can't identify with them, their approach is very antagonistic, it's not very different to what ASA does and look how that worked out for them...

Other issue, DA is still marketed as a white party.

In principle, I can agree, but in a marginal ward, voters not paying close attention can really affect the outcome. The DA were simply informing voters (who may not have been aware) that it was a two-horse race. I have no problem with that.

Also by elections in middle class areas typically see low turnout for a variety of reasons.

Predominantly being that middle class people are less invested in politics and more in their day to day lives.

Easy:
100% - Stop any new illegal border crossings;
100% - Deport all illegal aliens already in SA;
15% - Investigate and find aliens who got their citizenship illegally and deport them.
215% Q.E.D.

Been out of the loop with SA politics since the election. Has the GNU actually changed anything for the good?

I don't think DA only does negative campaigning but I agree that if they put out below type of messages out, that would be better approach.
