Neat project; but for government delays it could have made an added killing from CER's through the UNFCCC CDM initiative even with the massive admin but it collapsed soon after project commissioning; 2008 crash. Around 8MW installed capacity, averaged around 5MW to 6MW production; those systems are quite finicky (landfill gas not the cleanest gas 🙃 :giggle:) and expensive to run. Still running now but landfill almost closed.

Naturally. But I wouldn't expect someone to tell me to do it. Some things are just common sense

I'd take care of the voetsek school in mnandi too for that matter. Then again some of use are just raised different

As I understand the tech though, its a way to make use of the landfill for many years after it has officially closed as it will be generating methane for ages.

But yeah, it was a really cool project that could have been cool but government dithered and fscked around so the opportunity walked out the door.

Just for interest. In 2007/2008 I was involved with a Scandinavian crow that was into Green energy. They were looking at installing bio-mass plants in the greater Cape Town area. One of the places they identified was the landfill at Gordon's Bay. There is a section were all the garden waste is collected and it is also right next to a water pumping station. Their plan was to run those pumps with bio-fuel. We duly arranged a meeting with the City of Cape Town. Aunty Helen also graced us with her presence.

After the discussions they essentially told us they were going to build methane capture facilities rather. I sure has taken them a long time to finally get there!

You can't really blame them, all their lives they were taught to break things that the white man built down. Hard to unlearn such fun stuff.
